3 Myths About Asian Surgery – Let’s Debunk Them!

$

asian surgeryLately, there has been a growing interest in plastic surgery in Korea- both in Asia and beyond. There have arisen quite a few misconceptions revolving around the topic of Asian surgery. This is made even more so by the western media who also perpetuate these myths.

Myth #1: “Asians want to look white, like us, Westerners.”
Truth: This could be true but is definitely NOT the absolute, one and only truth. People who undergo Asian plastic surgery want to simply change their physical looks – it is as simple as that. Okay, let us look at the famous topic of the Korean Big Eye Surgery Boom: Do Asians really want to look Caucasian?

Yes, Korea’s standard of beauty; in general, big eyes, a well-defined nose and a small, thin face are prized but for complex reasons. Some people say the Korean Wave had started it; some people may say that whitish skin is desired due to cultural reasons – in ancient times in Asia, white skin is associated with the wealthier class. Maybe the reason is really simple – people just find it attractive! Who doesn’t agree that big eyes, a well-defined nose and a small, thin face on a person makes them look doll-like or babyish? That is the trend in young women in Asia these days, and that is becoming an establishing fact.

Myth #2: “It’s because of K-POP and Korean entertainment – that is the reason for their obsession with plastic surgery!”
Truth: There is a make-over show called “Let Me In” that transforms those so-called unattractive looking individuals into what is dubbed a beautiful swan. That is correct. But! Look at American television, “Extreme Makeover” anyone? What about “10 Years Younger” in British television? South Korea is not the only country that broadcasts such shows. As for Korean celebrities, yes, some of them have even admitted to getting surgery done. Let us not forget that an abundance of American celebrities also have done the same thing!

Myth #3: “Double Jaw Surgery sounds nasty, who does that? That is such an unhealthy body ideal!”
Truth: Ok, what gives? Since we are talking about “unhealthy body ideals”, while we are on the subject… why not criticize the body weight of Asian women? There is this age-old belief that east-Asian women are mostly skinny anyway. The fact is that bulimia nervosa often caused by chasing after an “ideal” weight is equally unhealthy. Some people in western countries chase after an “ideal” weight – that can be said to be unhealthy! If it goes below the healthy BMI range, well, that might put a damper on your health. That said, double jaw surgery can be an unhealthy pursuit – like everything else, if obsessed about. Say, if someone has gotten double jaw surgery for the fifth time and the surgery has screwed up time and time again – that is an unhealthy mindset. Remember kids, only look for board-certified plastic surgeons. If you pay for cheap but dubious surgery, you get what you pay for!

In recent years, South Korea has earned a strong reputation for being Asia’s hot spot for plastic surgery purposes. One of the most popular surgeries is Korean eyelid surgery and specifically, double eyelid surgery. As compared to their Western counterparts, not many of Asian descent are born with that crease above the eye – which makes the eye look all the more larger. These days, double eyelids can be made from one of two options for those who desire it; eyelid tape or through surgery. The former option is a more temporary solution while the latter is a more permanent solution.

Let us look at some Korean celebrities who are loved by Korean fans and around the world for their talent and beauty. It cannot be said whether these celebrities have had any surgery done or not, unless they have admitted to doing so. Still, many fans can’t help but speculate on this matter. Well, here are some potential (maybe they have had surgery, maybe not.) korean eye surgery before and after transformations. We’ll let you decide, dear reader.

Also from SNSD, Hyo-yeon  has also developed well!

Whether or not their physical beauty is the work of natural traits, make-up, Photoshop, surgery or a combination – these celebrities look stunning. One thing that is still debatable though is the question: are cosmetic procedures a sensible investment? Getting plastic surgery is a very personal decision and responsibility, there have been cases of botched jobs that have led to very ugly implications. While people have their reasons for choosing to go under the knife, how much is going too far? Right now, people are literally getting palm line surgery for better fortunes. Do you believe that your future is in the palm of your surgeon’s hand? Some people do and that’s their choice! My general advice is to ensure that the surgeon is qualified and experienced! I mean, we do use our hands… a lot. So, dear readers, I ask you this: if you want plastic surgery – what are your reasons and how far would you go with it?

Most Asians will tell you that double lidded eyes are a gift to be cherished, that if you born with it – you’re lucky. Society has a beauty standard and people realize this. For Korea and its neighbouring Asian countries, fair skin and double lidded eyes are two major traits of what is considered desirable. Just look at Korean dramas and K-POP, fans cannot help but wonder if their idol has had surgery or not. Korean eyelid surgery or double eyelid surgery is just that, transforming mono-lidded eyes into double lidded eyes – giving the appearance of more prominent looking eyes. Here we may have two Korean eye plastic surgery before and after transformation examples. We cannot say for certain whether these celebrities have had surgery or not. So, dear readers, why don’t you be the judge and decide for yourself?

Looking around the internet, there are many korean eye plastic surgery before and after transformations of Asians like these 3 amazing Asian eye surgery before and after transformations. But to be fair, how drastic the change is dependent on how much surgery was done on the person. I think we can be sure that these celebrities most probably have not done too extensive surgeries. What we can be sure, though, is that after the Korean Hallyu Wave where Korean entertainment has been welcomed by the world with open arms – especially Asia, many people from neighbouring Asian countries have decided to go to Korea for surgery. Now, there are more Singaporeans flying to Seoul for plastic surgery for instance. The trend continues to go on! What do you think about getting plastic surgery – would you ever consider getting it? Yay or nay?

Korean eyes surgery before and after Transformations: Celebrities Who Have Admitted to Plastic Surgery

Does it come as shocking news when Korean celebrities admit to having undergone plastic surgery? Is it really new news anymore? More and more celebrities have started to admit to having gone under the knife and besides that – some of them have only but a minor change. While procedures such as Korean breast surgery is still considered sort of taboo, double eyelid surgery, on the other hand is not. We live in a time where South Korean High Schoolers get plastic surgery for graduation.

Two celebrities who have admitted to having gone under the knife and did a little bit of work on their natural faces are Uee and Goo Hara.

After School’s member’s older sister, Uee’s older sister revealed the truth about Uee’s eye surgery.

Kara’s Goo Hara was also another celebrity who had admitted to having undergone eye surgery

Both of them have done work on their eyes. Still, there are many other korean eyes surgery before and after pictures of both celebrities and non-celebrities all over the internet. Even so, it must be said that these two ladies are more than pretty faces – beauty is indeed skin deep. Like any other human being, they have talents that have little to do with their looks. As an example, have you ever listened to the sound of a voice that makes you cry? When the same person who sang had appeared in an interview, he or she looked ordinary and yet special to you all the same? Their looks didn’t matter to you in the slightest; it was how they made you feel through their art. The question arises then: are cosmetic procedures a sensible investment?

Perhaps only you can answer that for yourself. Changing how you look on the outside will not heal the emotional scars inside of you, but you will look aesthetically pleasing. Like Johnny Depp had said, “[on buying a private island] Money doesn’t buy you happiness, but it buys you a big enough yacht to sail right up to it.” Perhaps the same thing could be said about changing one’s looks through plastic surgery. You may have heads turning, score better dates but all the same – how you feel about yourself cannot be changed by physical alterations alone.

The Latest Asian Smile Surgery Trend: Has Cosmetic Surgery Gone Too Far?

$

asian smile surgery

One of the latest plastic surgery trends in Korea right now is a sort of Asian smile surgery; the perma-smile. It is simply a surgery that lifts the corners of the lips so that a person will have a seemingly permanent smile on their face.

News sources claim that a  disturbing new surgery trend creates Joker-style grins for South Korean women! They are referring to this particular trend. Personally, while I for one am not interested in getting this procedure – I think that outright calling it a Joker-style grin is just plain silly.

Now that we are onto this subject, plastic surgery in itself has already been a no-go for many people already.  The question arises: are cosmetic procedures a sensible investment? In this case, is getting a permanent smile, a sensible investment? While it may seem like a terrible and crazy idea to many people, it can be an appealing idea for a number of reasons. At the workplace, sometimes a person’s facial expression is judged and for those who are unfortunate enough to be suffering from “bitchy resting face” – they are judged by co-workers and perhaps even their boss. Sometimes we can’t help but compartmentalize our lives and not mix interpersonal relationships with work. If we have problems at home, we don’t always reveal it at the workplace as we fear from being judged and vulnerable around others. People can be careless with one another, unintentionally so. Perhaps this is one reason why this new trend is appealing to some women.

That said, there will often enough be criticism wherever you go and in whatever you do. Korean breast surgery and double eyelid surgery are two very common plastic surgery procedures right now and still, there are people who criticize others who opt for these surgeries. Now is this new trend an absolute catastrophe? Has the world of cosmetic surgery gone too far now? My personal philosophy has usually been that, “You’ll be damned if you do and damned if you don’t – so why not just go ahead with your own take on the matter?”

Plastic surgery is still a controversial topic these days, especially with procedures such as korean breast surgery.  On the other hand, to Asians, getting the infamous double eyelid surgery procedure is becoming a norm. Even in the West, a American television personality like Julie Chen had plastic surgery to make eyes look bigger.  It is very common these days to hear that a celebrity had undergone some sort of plastic surgery procedure. Though we cannot say for certain whether these celebrities have had surgery or not, here are some kpop plastic surgery before and after pictures of celebrities rumoured to have had surgery.

Korean celebrities and plastic surgery has often been a heated, debated topic whereby fans can only but speculate on whether or not their idols have had any work done. We can safely say, however, that make-up, Photoshop or cosmetic surgery can greatly alter one’s attractiveness by society’s standards. That said, the beauty ideal of having big eyes also owes its dues to our biology. It is a known fact that neotenous features such as baby-like big eyes elicit nurturing and protective feelings in people. Besides, who doesn’t like a youthful appearance?

Korean Before and After Plastic Surgery Pictures of Celebrities: Still a Big Deal?

$

These days, a casual browse through the internet and you’ll find quite a number of news articles claiming that so and so Korean celebrity denies surgery or admits to have had surgery. Just type the words “Korean before and after plastic surgery pictures” on a search engine and you’ll find an abundance of discussions, speculations and the like. Fans swoon or criticize their idols on the internet. Why is it such a big deal? It’s actually quite funny, if you think about it. When we compare childhood photographs to the idols at their present as well as more recent photographs, say, five years before their debut – how different do they look? For some, the difference is too obvious. Are their looks the only trait that matters, the only thing fans cherish about their idols? Then it’s not the actress that is the problem, it’s the attitude of raving, disappointed fans. No one’s perfect, but that is perhaps why some people adopt the belief that, “Beauty is not created, but defined.”

In the Asian culture, having distinct, larger looking eyes is increasingly becoming a beauty standard. As a result, double eyelid surgery has become a norm among Asians. There has been news like ’South Korean high schoolers get plastic surgery for Graduation’ – this social norm has become a rite of passage for some Asian teenagers going into young adulthood.

Two recent cases whereby a celebrity has admitted to surgery is the actress, Lee Da Hae and 2012 Miss Korea pageant winner, Kim Yumi.

korean before and after plastic surgery pictures

Lee Da Hae before and after surgery.

amazing korean before and after plastic surgery pictures

Kim Yumi before and after pictures

You can tell, it’s obvious isn’t it? More and more, the “conservative” vibe has lessened in Asian culture. Procedures like Korean breast surgery are no longer that much of a big deal. Just look at Kim Yumi’s before and after images – that contrast between her poses. One is so conservative-looking while the other booms with confidence – not at all shy.

The question is, how do you view plastic surgery? Is it morally wrong? If it is, why is it morally wrong? Some people see plastic surgery as a stepping stone to greater success in their careers and love life. But are cosmetic procedures a sensible investment? Will you really find greater opportunities for your career as well as to meet the love of your life? Perhaps, but one thing’s for sure though – if you had no inner beauty, no talent or character then no amount of surgery can change your life. It is through resilience and a passion for life that makes it easier for the seeds of opportunities to blossom and flourish. Perhaps Kim Yumi knows this, and to quote her, “From now on, I hope to make a name for myself for my inner beauty rather than my outer beauty.”

korea plastic surgery

These days, it is a fact that so many people flock into South Korea for cosmetic surgery. But why is it that Korea plastic surgery is highly sought after, in all of Asia? Perhaps, because, we seek happiness from reliable sources.

Quality Doctors

The cost for surgery – no matter what country it is – is no small amount or effort, the question is: are cosmetic procedures a sensible investment? We’d like to be in the hands of experienced, qualified and reliable doctors. From a recent article from Bangkok Post, it is said that more people are visiting South Korea to have their cosmetic surgery and this makes sense. As quoted from the article, “Becoming a cosmetic surgeon is very tough and there’s a lot of competition,” he said. “If only one percent can make it to medical school, only one percent of that one percent will become plastic surgeons. But remember, finding the right Korean plastic surgery clinic is just as important as being in the hands of the right doctor.

Uniquely Asian

As an Asian who is considering surgery — you’d like to know that your doctor is experienced with undergoing procedures that are uniquely Asian. Yeah? With procedures like double eyelid surgery, it seems to make more sense to sought after the services of a doctor who is trained for such uniquely Asian procedures.

The Statistics

Without statistics, we’d be hard-pressed to know that our resources may very well go down the drain, and bear no fruitful outcomes. Thankfully, there exist statistics! According to plastic surgery in Korea statistics, every year, more than 7.5 million tourists visit Korea and among them, 80,000 visit to get a medical procedure done. It is said that by 2015, this number will grow from 80,000 to 400,000 visitors.

This South Korean woman transforms herself in order to look like her idol, Miranda Kerr – an Australian supermodel who is not as popularin Korea comapred to the US or UK.

3 things you didn't know about korea plastic surgery

North Koreans have it harder, but with cheaper prices

To start off, here’s a piece of news that may or may not surprise you: cosmetic  eye surgery costs only $3 in North Korea . Even so, that is no small sum for the locals. Yeah, in North Korea, double eyelid surgery is also found to be a beauty ideal as well. Though, of course, their voices are silenced and the people do have it harder; if they were found to have had surgery, they would be punished. All that can be said, here, is to be thankful that you’re not in North Korea.

Becoming a Surgeon is Tough

Yeah, it’s a very competitive process and becoming a cosmetic surgeon in South Korea is difficult; take a look at plastic surgery in Korea statistics. According to 2011 Statistics by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, there are only but 1,250 surgeons in South Korea.

Koreans are not obsessed with cosmetic surgery

While the consensus may say that Koreans are obsessed with cosmetic surgery, but not every Korean thinks so. Western media has portrayed it to be the case; that, among Asians, Koreans are bordering on an unhealthy obsession towards plastic surgery. Some older Koreans are strongly opposed to this trend, however, and even some of the youth. Here’s the thing: Are cosmetic procedures a sensible investment? Sure, it can be, for some people. But, it’s too easy to generalize an entire country to be this or that, and the fact is, not every Korean is “obsessed” with cosmetic surgery.

So, if you didn’t know those three little things about Korea Plastic Surgery – now you do! With all that said, as you may already know, South Korea is a top destination in Asia for cosmetic surgery. But, there is just one too many options to choose from! For the sake of safety and your well-being, going to the right Korean plastic surgery clinic is of the utmost importance. The best thing that you can do for yourself — if you intend to get cosmetic surgery — is to do the research! Which procedure, surgeon and clinic is the best choice for your case?

What Everybody Ought to Know About Korea Cosmetic Surgery

korea cosmetic surgery

If you’re new to Korea cosmetic surgery, here’s a neat little summary that may shed some light on the topic for you.

Since the rise of popularity in Korean media in the early 2000s, the spot light has been cast on Korea cosmetic surgery. Here’s an interesting fact: one of the most sought after procedures, double eyelid surgery does not owe its dues to the Hallyu Wave. You see, way before the Hallyu Wave, double eyelids were already considered to be a beauty trait. The underlying belief here is that having double eyelids went hand in hand with gaining better prospects. This is still generally believed in Asian culture.

While South Korea is known for K-POP and all things beauty-related, in all of Asia; unfortunately, things in North Korea are not as pleasant as they are in South Korea. Lately, there has been news that North Koreans with ‘Double Eyelids’ live under threat of forced labor – not a pretty sight.

Strange but saddening news aside, what everybody ought to know here are the 3 reasons why Korea plastic surgery is popular; their quality doctors, their sensitivity to uniquely Asian procedures as well as the statistics to back up their reputation.

But, even with statistics – not every inch of Seoul is a haven for plastic surgery procedures. Korea cosmetic surgery is not magic, but a medical procedure that involves resources, research and most importantly, patience. Remember; only go to a board-certified surgeon from a reputable Korean plastic surgery clinic as a botched job will only cause you pain, grief, time and even more money!

2 Very Important Thoughts on Modern-day Korea and Plastic Surgery

$
0
0

modern day Korea and plastic surgeryPlastic surgery, these two words may have sounded funny or even upsetting to people – if this was still the 1940s, of course. We all know that in America, at least, plastic surgery is still stigmatized. A decade ago, this was the same case for Korea, as well. Now, cosmetic surgery in Korea is no longer a taboo. Here are three things you’ll want to know about modern-day Korea and Plastic Surgery.

Seen As a Kind of Luxury

As was said before, these days, cosmetic surgery is becoming socially accepted in Korea as well as in other parts of Asia. You are probably wondering why and how this became the case? With time, you see, technology had developed and soon, the living standards in South Korea had greatly improved.

With that, people placed importance in other areas of their lives. If you didn’t have to worry about food, shelter, schooling and other necessities then your mind could wander off towards the luxuries. Yes, these days, getting plastic surgery done is seen as a kind of luxury to be indulged in. Much like buying branded, mass-produced commodities, getting double eyelid surgery has become a commonplace occurrence. You might have heard that Korean schoolgirls are getting plastic surgery done as a graduation gift. They don’t necessarily need it, they want it.

Is it really a a Luxury, or a Necessity?

But, hold on. Is it really simply a luxury? More and more Chinese seek South Korean cosmetic surgery, with the belief that this will increase their chances of landing a job. “You will have better chances if you are both capable and good-looking when you have job interviews” said Liu, one Chinese among thousands of job seekers who make their way to South Korea for cosmetic surgery, Last year, over 30,000 people of Chinese nationality had entered South Korea on medical tourism visas.

It seems as though these job seekers see it as a sort of necessity. They see it as a sort of confidence boost. Is it really a luxury then when the definition of luxury is, “ a state of great comfort or elegance, especially when involving great expense”. The process of getting most kinds of surgery done is not at all comfortable, but it does involve great expense. But, the end result may be of great elegance. If they are a necessity, are cosmetic procedures a sensible investment? So, is it a necessity or a luxury? What do you think?

X Factor Winner Dami Im Feels Uncertain About Getting Asian Face Surgery

$

asian face surgery Recently, Australia’s newest pop sensation Dami Im told News Limited, “It’s a challenge” she said. “I definitely want to try to push my limits but I am not sure about going to Korea because I know they like a certain type of artist and a certain look” says the 24 year old singer. Having won X Factor and topped the Aussie charts with her debut single ‘Alive’, right now, she is quite a hit in Australia. But, she does not seem to be a celebrity that would want to get cosmetic surgery in Korea – or any Asian face surgery at all, perhaps.

Dami Im was born in South Korea, but had moved to Queensland, Australia at the age of nine. Although she had moved, she knows about the culture; countless of K-POP stars have done some work on their bodies and faces and for Dami Im, she does not seem to be keen on following suit.

She had gone into further detail, “Their idea of a beautiful person is small-faced, big eyes with eyelids like Westerners and a Hollywood nose and no cheekbones. They have surgery to carve their cheekbones down, which I considered at one point when I was little.” Indeed, many Asian people are getting double eyelid surgery and we cannot help but ask the question; the small face obsession: is it just for vanity?

If it is just done for vanity, who cares? “How does that matter?” you may ask. According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, everyone needs to fulfill 5 types of needs; they are physiological, safety, love/belonging, self-esteem and self-actualization. The problem here is that if inexperienced young people are getting plastic surgery as a means to an end – thinking that they are only worth as much as how perfect they are on the outside; there may be a problem here. In fact, lately, the first Korean-American assemblyman urges to teens to pursue passion. Passion may not be visible on the outside; it may not have to do just with appearances. It makes sense. Plastic surgery mainly gets a bad reputation because there are people who go overboard with the whole thing. In itself, it isn’t a bad thing entirely. It is mostly about a person’s attitude towards life, as much as how much of his time and resources he puts into it. In a society where looks matter, like in South Korea, the youth of our time walk a fine line.

Cosmetic Surgery Korea Gone Bizarre: Chinese Man Sues Wife For Being Ugly, Wins $120,000

Did you hear? Here’s where cosmetic surgery Korea has gone bizarre: Jian Feng, the Chinese Man who sued his ex-wife has won $120,000. At first, he sued her because she gave birth to their daughter who looked nothing like him; so, he accused her of being unfaithful to him. He couldn’t believe that the child was his.

“I married my wife out of love, but as soon as we had our first daughter, we began having marital issues,” he told the Irish Times. “Our daughter was incredibly ugly, to the point where it horrified me.”

So, they got a DNA test done. The test proved that the child was his. However, the cat was soon led out of the bag – his wife revealed a secret. Before she met him, she had gone through $100,000 worth of cosmetic surgery in Korea.

cosmetic surgery in korea

Jian Feng’s wife, before and after surgery.

He then went to sue her, again, but this time on grounds of “false pretenses” or to put it simply, for fooling him into thinking that she had always looked this beautiful.

All that aside, it’s possible that she may have underwent double eyelid surgery, if we compared her eyes to that of their children.

With all that said, are cosmetic procedures a sensible investment? Was it right of him to have sued his wife? What if you were this man, what would you have done? What if you were this woman, what would you have done?

Everyone wants to look good, but what happens when you have kids, right?

On the other extreme, X Factor winner Dami Im won’t bow to Korean plastic surgery pressure. Here’s a question, if you don’t live in Korea – is there any pressure on you to undergo surgery? If there is, maybe you might want to re-evaluate your motivations. After all, getting plastic surgery done on yourself is a very personal decision. Think about it this way, the money and time is yours and the consequences fall on you – whether they turn out to be risky business or astonishing results.

Today, we bring you more bizarre Plastic Surgery Asia news. Is that a “Yay!” that I hear?

Recently, there has been a story circulating around the blogosphere, claiming that a man in China had sued his wife for being ugly – he had then won $120,000. We’ve also mentioned the story in one of our newest blog posts, titled, “Cosmetic Surgery Korea Gone Bizarre: Chinese Man Sues Wife For Being Ugly, Wins $120,000”.

In short, the story goes like this: He had sued her on grounds of deceit – for not telling him that she had plastic surgery, before they had even met. Their child looked “incredibly ugly” to him and that was when he had suspected her of having an affair. Later, a DNA test confirmed that the child was his. That’s when she confessed to having done extensive cosmetic surgery in Korea, which greatly angered him. But, wait! Is it really true? Did all this really happen?

Apparently, the story may have first appeared in China’s Heilongjiang Morning Post, a publication with a shoddy reputation for posting false, unverified information. Furthermore, according to a post by RocketNews24, titled ‘Thinking about plastic surgery? This ad may make you laugh – or it could make you think twice!’ the family portrait with the three kids may have actually originated from an ad in Taiwan. This blog post from RocketNews24 was from over a year ago.

Besides, if you think about it, doesn’t China have only but a one-child policy? How do these folks have three kids — unless they were filthy stinking rich! If this story was true then all I can say is, oh my. With or without having done double eyelid surgery, a child shouldn’t be called ugly by their own parent and it is especially not something to be publicized.

It is still debatable whether it is a true story or not; it is simply bizarre and mysterious. Do you know that saying? “Fool me once – shame on you! Fool me twice, shame on me!” Third time’s a charm? I think not; you would think he would have already done something a lot earlier – when they had their first “ugly” child – than to have waited until their third “ugly” child.

Do you recognize any of these faces? One of them is Singaporean, by the way. Did any of them get double eyelid surgery? I’d say, definitely. Dami Im Won’t Change How She Looks – No Korean Nose Jobs For Her!

Korean nose jobsEarlier this month, we talked about how X-factor winner Dami Im feels uncertain about getting Asian face surgery. Now, the verdict is out – no Korean nose jobs for her!

She’s famous and talented, having won and topped the Aussie charts with her single, “Alive”. But this chick, unlike other celebrities, is against extensive cosmetic surgery as she states her view, “Even though I don’t feel like the most beautiful person, people still like me for who I am and what I look like so I wouldn’t change that just because I can.”

Though she is against getting Korean rhinoplasty, she’s had surgery on her nose before due to a serious automobile accident.

“I hit my head on the window, my face, like six times,” she said. “I had to get reconstructive surgery. It wasn’t because I wanted to look different but because my nose was broken a lot.”

She’s had three surgeries due to the unfortunate accident and might have to undergo more in the future.

“I don’t want to say I’d never have plastic surgery and then have surgery to get rid of the bone and people will think I lied,” she said.

Her take on the matter of cosmetic surgery is that it was invented for people with in-born deformities or people who have got into accidents. We’ll probably never see her get double eyelid surgery and that’s all good and fine! Good and fine? Why?

Well, how much surgery is too much? I’m sure we’ve all heard of surgery-gone-horribly-wrong stories like how a model’s lips swelled to four times their normal size after botched jab.

So yes, good for Dami Im! Fortunately, she doesn’t live in South Korea where it can be said that society judges people more harshly on their image.

Before and After South Korean Eye Surgery | Seoul TouchUp’s Favourites Of The Week

The cheesy pick-up line, “The eyes are the window to your soul.” may be closer to the truth than you may think! Apparently, men notice a woman’s eyes, smile and then breasts according to research by Murine. So, this week, we bring you our favorite before and after pictures of the week for one of the most common types of plastic surgery – South Korean eye surgery.

Our Favourites of the Week

Now that I think about it, the only exception to the “Men notice the eyes first” rule, is if someone has a very obvious deformity. I mean, think about it, would you notice someone’s eyes first, or say a very pronounced overbite? How about spotted skin that makes an adult appear like a hormonal teenager? These things could take attention away from even the most prettiest of eyes.

We reckon that they have done double eyelid surgery or some form of Korean eye surgery. What do you guys think? Love it? Hate it?

Here’s a final thought, do you notice one thing about these before-and-after pictures? A lot of the “before” pictures shows a sad, glum or unhappy person. Even if they’re smiling, some seem to lack that definitive air of confidence — as compared to the “after” pictures. The controversial question is, are cosmetic surgery procedures necessary? Maybe, maybe not. If someone feels so terrible about how they look, it’s their choice and ability to change that. All in all, there are alternatives to surgery as well as non-invasive kinds — say, Ultherapy for skin treatment.

Next week, we’ll look at the best smiles (jaw surgery) of the week!

Nothing Really Cosmetic About V-line Jaw Surgery Here: Twins Fixed Severe Underbite Condition

v-line jaw surgery

Look at the picture above. What is your reaction?

Would it not be a nice world to live in, if we were never judged for our looks? If appearances were just that, and not taken too seriously? But, we don’t live in a utopia like that and perhaps that is a good thing! Why? Honestly speaking, if we could never judge whether someone is attractive or not – how will we choose a mate? Could you honestly say to yourself, that you’ll be okay with marrying a severely obese, booger-eating man-child? I think not! Sorry to bring that image to your mind, but yeah – I think you get the point.

The Science Behind What Makes Someone Attractive

Instead, the reality is that yes, we judge others and others judge us to some level. What can we do here? We can be aware of what is considered attractive, scientifically. We can figure out what you can do to feel and be attractive – to yourself, and to other people. Now, the science behind what makes someone sexy is includes:

  • Clear skin as they reflect whether someone is healthy or not.
  • Symmetrical faces as this is an indicator of your genes and environment.
  • For women, higher foreheads, fuller lips, shorter jaws and a narrower chin.
  • High cheek bones, big eyes and a thin jaw.
  • Clear eyes  – red or watery eyes can make you look sick!

Not all of us were born with the above traits and the uniqueness of cheek and jawbone facial cosmetic surgeries among Asians, may not be unique to Asians alone!

Most of us do not have it that bad. Before you throw rotten eggs at me, think about this: Will a man notice your beautiful, clear eyes first or a very distracting overbite or under-bite? No matter what race you are, a severely misaligned jaw can sway attention away from your pretty eyes.

Twins Undergo V-Line Jaw Surgery To Correct Severe Under-bites

The picture above is indeed real. Recently, the pair of twin sisters had underwent V-line jaw surgery to correct severe under-bites. According to a Chinese report on Sina.cn, they were sponsored by the Korean reality television show, “Let Me In”.

The show was criticized for focusing on one’s looks and for ignoring other factors that affect attractiveness. Sure, maybe your life wouldn’t depend on double eyelid surgery. But if you’re constantly teased about your jawline or it is actually affecting you negatively in your day-to-day life, then is facial contouring surgery really unnecessary? This could really affect someone both physically and emotionally. What is the solution then?

In this case, there’s nothing really cosmetic with fixing a misaligned jaw. Is there? We’d love to hear your thoughts on this, feel free to leave a comment!
